Palma Cathedral Guided Tour – Experience Overview

What do we do on this tour with cathedral entrance?

This guided walking tour offers one of the most complete and efficient ways to visit Palma Cathedral and the historic Old Town, combining cultural context, expert guidance and priority entrance to one of Mallorca’s most iconic monuments. By joining this tour, you avoid long queues at the cathedral entrance and make the most of your time in Palma, especially during busy periods when tickets often sell out.

The experience begins near Palma Cathedral, where your official local guide will welcome the group and provide an introduction to the city and its historical importance. Before entering the cathedral, you will enjoy a short guided walk through the Old Town, exploring the monumental surroundings of La Seu, Parc de la Mar and nearby historic streets. Along the way, the guide explains key historical facts, architectural details and anecdotes that help you understand the role of the cathedral within Palma’s urban and cultural development.

The guided visit inside Palma Cathedral (La Seu) lasts approximately 45 minutes and includes access to the main chapels, the central nave and significant artistic elements. Your guide will explain the cathedral’s Gothic architecture, its construction history, symbolic features and notable works, including modern interventions such as those by Antoni Gaudí and Miquel Barceló. This context-rich explanation allows you to truly appreciate the cathedral, rather than simply walking through it independently.

After the guided portion, you will have free time inside the cathedral to explore at your own pace, revisit your favourite areas or visit the Cathedral Museum and the Episcopal Palace Museum (when open). At the end of the tour, your guide remains available to answer questions and provide practical recommendations on what to see, do or visit next in Palma, making this tour an excellent starting point for the rest of your day in the city.

This combination of Old Town walking tour + skip-the-line cathedral entrance + expert guide makes the experience ideal for first-time visitors, culture lovers and travellers who want a well-organised, informative and time-efficient visit to Palma Cathedral.

What is Palma Cathedral?

Palma Cathedral (La Seu) is the most emblematic monument of Palma and one of the finest examples of Mediterranean Gothic architecture. Construction began in the 13th century, shortly after the Christian reconquest of Mallorca, and continued over several centuries, resulting in a cathedral that reflects different artistic periods and influences. Its privileged location facing the sea makes it one of the very few Gothic cathedrals in Europe built directly on the coastline, creating a truly unique skyline for the city.

The interior is breathtaking for its scale and light. The cathedral features soaring columns, an immense central nave and one of the largest Gothic rose windows in the world, known as the “Eye of the Gothic”, which floods the space with coloured light, especially during morning hours. Over time, the cathedral has been enriched with notable artistic contributions, including early 20th-century work by Antoni Gaudí and a striking contemporary ceramic installation by Mallorcan artist Miquel Barceló in the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament.

Beyond its architectural beauty, Palma Cathedral is a living monument that reflects Mallorca’s religious, historical and cultural evolution. Visiting La Seu offers not only a journey through centuries of history and art, but also an essential insight into the identity of Palma de Mallorca, making it a must-see highlight of any visit to the city.

We booked the Palma Cathedral tour with NoFrills Excursions and everything worked perfectly. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and the priority entrance saved us a lot of time. A great way to understand Palma Cathedral and the surrounding Old Town in a short visit.

  • Michael R.

The Palma Cathedral guided tour was one of the highlights of our stay in Mallorca. Skipping the long queues made a huge difference, and the guide provided detailed explanations that brought the cathedral and Old Town to life. Learning about the history, architecture and symbolism inside La Seu gave us a much deeper appreciation than visiting alone. Everything was well organised, from the meeting point to the timing inside the cathedral. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Palma for the first time.
